ABOUT ME

I'm Clare and welcome to my website Treasures Out Of The Yard or TOOTY for short.  So why the name TOOTY?

Well Tooty was my childhood nickname and as it happens turns out to be the perfect Acronym for my business. My business grew from a hobby and passion to turn unwanted items of furniture into beautiful, repurposed and reloved pieces.

Nowadays we live in a wasteful society with many furniture items needlessly ending up in rubbish tips or landfill sites. I love to save these pieces from the furniture graveyard and either restore, remodel and refashion them so that they can once again take pride of place in your home or garden.

These items can be viewed under my Items For Sale section.

Our home is our haven, of which our bedroom is the hub of the sanctuary.  I specialise in refinishing bedroom furniture and my favourite colours are green and blue which lend themselves beautifully to bedrooms. The light or pastel hues of these colours create a calming atmosphere whilst the darker and richer tones of these colours produce a luxurious and glamorous look.

I not only refinishing my own pieces and sell them but also enjoy working on client's own pieces. Some examples of the commission pieces I have done can be viewed under my commission page. Perhaps you have an item of furniture which no longer fits in with your home decor, but you don't want to get rid of, as it holds sentimental value. Maybe your item is just looking a bit tired or dated, then before you dispose of it, please get in touch with me to discuss ideas on how I can refashion or revive your furniture to suit the feel and style of your home and save it from ending up in landfill.

I am a perfectionist, with great attention to detail and only use top quality paints and products to achieve the best finish for my work. As I am passionate about caring for our environment, I will also try to use environmentally products whenever and wherever possible.

Black corner drinks / gin cabinet

With a stylish glass door and three shelves (1 removable), this cabinet offers ample space for storing your favourite drinks and accessories. I've added 3 internal battery operated lights with sensing functions and 3 different light colours (blue, amber & white) to display your cabinet’s contents of an evening.

Alice In Wonderland children's writing desk and chair

Children’s vintage writing desk & chair refinished in an Alice in Wonderland theme. The desk & chair have been painted using a high quality blue paint. The lid, the base of the inside and the pull out drawer have been decoupaged with three different Alice in Wonderland rice papers. A foliage stencil has been painted around the edge of the lid and highlighted by hand. The chair has a leatherette seat pad which has been painted and an Alice in Wonderland paper has been decoupaged in the centre.

An antique high-backed painted blue chair reupholstered in a crane and flower fabric

A beautiful, heavy solid wood vintage chair hand painted using premium quality paints in complementary colours and reupholstered (new foam and fabric added). The plush velour velvet upholstery fabric in turquoise blue has a pretty crane and flower design on it. The chair has a metallic gold trim added around the base of the seat pad.

Side / end table painted grey

Country style chest of drawers

A pretty hand painted solid wood chest of drawers has been transformed using high quality mineral paints. The whole piece has been painted in a cream colour with a petrol blue colour blended into the cream on the spindles and the base. For a softer look to the base, I added a taupe colour and blended it into the blue. I highlighted the spindles and parts of the base with a Decor Wax. Meadow flowers transfers have been added to the sides. Handmade butterfly embellishments adorn the handles.

Vintage black bedside table with Queen Anne Style legs

A stunning refurbished bedside table with the Handcraft Quality Furniture registered trademark. I have painted it using a quality mineral paint in Black and a gold metallic paste for the legs. The table top and door front have been gently sanded back to reveal a beautiful patina to its wood veneer which has been conditioned and protected with linseed oil. The table has an inner storage shelf and there is further inner storage behind the door, which still retains its original brass handle.

Black and white crackle effect bedside table

A black and white bedside table hand painted using a high quality Italian paint (Fleur). The three drawers have been spray painted using Craig and Rose crackle effect and new French vintage themed ceramic knobs have been added. The panel inlays on the sides have been given the crackle effect and sanded for a weathered look. The piece has been sealed and protected with Polyvine clear gloss and the inside of the drawers and the table have been white waxed to protect and condition the wood.

Accessory stand

A pretty antique hard wood accessory stand painted in a bright white with a deep red cranberry colour painted around the top of the inner shelf and inside the useful pull out drawers. Hand cut pearlised mosaic tiles have been used on the bottom of the shelf and the front of the drawers. The barley twist legs, rails and around the edge of the drawers have been highlighted in a metallic Pearl paint for a bit of shimmer, which beautifully complements the mosaic tiles.

Highly recommend Clare at Tooty for any furniture restoration and commission work. We had a very, very weathered teak table and 6 armchairs that have been beautifully restored. Hours and hours of labour of love has gone into this restoration and it is very clear that Clare is very skilled and passionate in her work .

Would not hesitate to recommend her work. Five stars  🌟

Joy, Buckingham

Well what can I say. Clare is fabulous. 2 chairs, both of which are extremely old, one belonging to my great gran and one, a Lloyd Loom chair belonging to my mum.

That one she bought second hand for my late sister when she was nursing her and my sister would have been 74 years old if she had lived.

My great grans chair has to be at least, if not more, than a hundred years old and Clare restored them both and they look magnificent! I truly thank you Clare for fabulous work on both and will always recommend her to take on others work in the future.

Nikki, Buckingham

I had some sentimental pieces of furniture left to me by my Grandmother. They were very heavy African wood and my options were to have them restored or to get rid of them. I found Tooty Treasures’ details locally in Buckingham and quite honestly it was a God send. Clare has transformed them into modern day. They are absolutely stunning and I cannot believe the end result - to say I am ecstatic is an understatment. Without any hesitation I most definitely recommend Clare and her services for any furniture restoration/TLC.

Thank you for all the care and attention you gave our problem chair. You have given a family heirloom a new lease of life.

Dean, Buckingham

Saw this page appear on a friend's feed and thought the dressing table I had could do with some attention.

Clare was helpful and her experience was invaluable in helping me decide on the way forward. To say I’m happy with the final result is an understatement.

Clare’s skill and passion for these projects is obvious.

I would highly recommend Tooty - Treasures Out Of The Yard to anyone considering sprucing up some furniture.

I contacted Clare to ask about making two sets of coasters for my recently decorated bedrooms. For such a small commission I was astounded with her attention to detail and professionalism. I can not recommend her highly enough. I am just gutted that I got rid of my old bedroom furniture as I would of got her to modernise it. New furniture is so small and flimsy.

Julia, Buckingham

Clare did an absolute cracking job on my mirror ... so pleased.

Such a professional friendly genuine person

Thank you.

Liz, Buckingham

This was my gran's chest and I'm totally amazed at how Clare has transformed the piece. She's really made all its best features stand out and it now fits perfectly in our living room with our other furniture. Thank you Clare. You are so talented!. This has turned out even better than I imagined!

Jane, Buckingham

I finally got round to taking a picture of my fabulous garden ladders. @tootytreasures thank you so much, they are everything I wanted and more. They fit perfectly in the garden. @tootytreasures sourced the ladders, I collected them and Clare worked her magic! Can’t recommend Clare enough! Thank you again.

Vera, Buckingham

I searched for quite some time for someone to restore our large table and 6 chairs. Luck was on my side when I found Clare at Tooty and even better she is very local to me. Clare was easy to communicate with and understood what we wanted to achieve with a table and chairs that we bought second hand from another local person which was supposed to be 'just for now' when we moved house. Five years later we hadn't done anything about it. To cheer ourselves up during the Pandemic and give ourselves a Christmas present of having the furniture done up with the aim of having family here to enjoy the refurbished items. That didn't happen in the end but we would fully recommend Clare - she has such high standards and we are extremely happy with the results. She re-upholstered the chairs as well with fabric that we sourced from a market in London - used coffee bean bags which we discovered are only used once and then sold or scrapped. Such a waste - they have made unusual and novel seat covers. Clare went to a lot of trouble to eradicate the strong smell that the coffee bags arrived with! She used natural methods throughout which we were also very happy about. All in all, Clare worked extremely hard and with high standards to complete the project. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her😊 After contacting one particularly unhelpful and extremely rude company regarding the work it was a delight to find Clare.
